AA nurse-first ethics training on informed consent, patient autonomy, and primary-source verification—without slogans or tribalism.

This 1.0 CNE activity uses a NursesOutLoud interview with attorney Aaron Siri to strengthen ethical nursing practice related to vaccines and informed consent. Learners will review the interview content focused on primary-source verification, patient autonomy, respectful refusal, and the nurse’s role in non-coercive education. Learners will complete a post-test quiz and evaluation to demonstrate learning objectives.
Optional enrichment resources are provided for learners who want to review primary sources (package inserts and long-form deposition content), but these are not required for CNE completion.

By the end of this 1.0 CNE activity, you’ll be able to:
Identify the core elements of true informed consent
Apply a non-coercive approach when patients accept, decline, or defer vaccines
Document vaccine discussions in a way that supports patient rights and protects your professional accountability
Differentiate opinion-based claims from steps nurses can take to verify primary sources

Upon completion, the learner will be able to:
Identify key elements of informed consent (disclosure, voluntariness, comprehension, and respect for refusal) in vaccine-related nursing encounters. (Remember/Understand)
Explain the nurse’s ethical responsibilities related to patient advocacy and non-coercive communication when vaccines are offered or refused. (Understand)
Apply a bedside approach for vaccine education that supports patient autonomy and professional documentation. (Apply)
Differentiate between opinion-based claims and primary-source verification steps (e.g., where nurses can check schedules/inserts). (Analyze)
